What medium do you use?
Acrylics, Oils, scrapbook paper, wallpaper, matte medium, burlap, colored pens and pencils. My favorite pencil is the Papermate Sharpwriter.
How do you stay inspired?
By looking at books, blogs, magazines, the outdoors and by listening to GREAT music. By looking very closely at things.
Where do you buy your art supplies?
I find a lot of materials in thrift stores and yard sales. But I buy a lot of supplies at Utrecht, Michaels, Dick Blicks and fabric stores too.
Do you work traditionally or digitally?
A combination. I make a lot of collages, do a lot of sketching and painting. For much of my illustration work I will do pencil drawings and then finish them in Illustrator.
What color combination are you most excited about right now?
Aqua, red and orange.

Why do you like being an illustrator in 10 words or less?
I get to draw fun things for a living!
If you weren’t an illustrator, what would you be?
I’d probably be a full time painter and sell prints on Etsy or from my web site. Or maybe I’d be a ballerina or a chickadee :)
What illustration job would you love to get (your dream job)?
I would love to design fabric (Marimekko) or for wallpaper and I’d really love to get more into designing for housewares! I’d also love to do a series of wooden toys of animals and shapes… fun!
Name something you do in your spare time.
Visit my local greenhouse because the plants are beautiful and it always smells and feels so good in the greenhouse. Visiting my husband in his art studio. I also love to Sudoku!
What’s the strangest work experience you’ve ever had?
I was a photo assistant for a few years in Portland Oregon and I did a shoot with Jim Rose (from the Jim Rose Circus). At the end of the photo shoot Mr. Rose wanted Me and the photographer to take him fishing, so we did.

Austria, I just saw the Sound of Music again after not seeing it since I was a little girl and it looks so beautiful.

What recent illustration job have you enjoyed doing?
I love them all for different reasons! Definitely Chronicle books was really fun, they do such beautiful packaging design and the products will end up being gorgeous. Also, The Land of Nod bedding and catalog covers have been very exciting and the Mesa del Sol water tower has been an amazing experience!
What was your favorite illustration assignment?
I loved working on the water tower because it has a strong representation of my painting style which is at the heart of my work. My organic and whimsical shapes are found in all of my illustration and art work.
