I spent the first 18 years of my life in Kittery, Maine, went to college in Minnesota, studied abroad in Bogota, Colombia, rented an apartment in Oaxaca, Mexico and spent the last 15 years in San Francisco, California.

Where do you live?
San Francisco, CA

Where have you lived?
I spent the first 18 years of my life in Kittery, Maine and then went to college in St. Paul, Minnesota and studied abroad in Bogota, Colombia and rented an apartment in Oaxaca, Mexico for a short time with my husband and the last 10 years in San Francisco, California!

What medium do you use?
Primarily Acrylic paint and collage.

How do you stay inspired?
I take regular walks up to Bernal Hill which has all of these hidden staircases and secret gardens. I also explore thrift stores for 60’s silk Vera scarves and Dollar stores from random colorful baubles as well as trips to the ocean, book stores and china town wonderings.

Where do you buy your art supplies?
FLAX is a great art store in SF with ridiculously beautiful paper and covetable art supplies, but I order supplies on line too from Blick when I don’t want to impulse buy!

Do you work traditionally or digitally?

What color combination are you most excited about right now?
Bright red and light turquoise sing!

What blog(s) do you read?
Dear Ada, SF Girl By Bay, Decor8 are a few I check routinely and countless friend’s blogs!

Why do you like being an illustrator in 10 words or less?
I get to paint again today?!

If you weren’t an illustrator, what would you be?
An art teacher or textile designer

What illustration job would you love to get (your dream job)?
I would love to design a line of beautiful and colorful bedding and to illustrate a children’s book!

Name something you do in your spare time.
I go to the farmer’s market, have latte dates with friends and bike.

What’s the strangest work experience you’ve ever had?
Teaching art in a Colombian women’s prison.

What are you reading now?
“The Post-Birthday World” by Lionel Shriver

What recent book do you recommend for a good read?
Although it was quite sad, I loved Joan Didion’s “The Magical Year of Thinking”

Where would you like to travel to next?
I’ve never been to Paris and really want to!

The short lived “Freaks & Geeks”

What’s your favorite NPR show?
This American Life

What movie have you seen several times?
The Royal Tannebaums

I didn’t watch tv as a child very much, but as a child of the 80’s I had a smurf collection

What is your favorite cheese?
Humboldt Fog is zany and complex, but I’ll take Havarti Dill as a standby

Lately, This American Life, Pema Chodron podcasts, Bon Iver, She & Him, Calexico and SF musician Sean Hayes.

If you could eat only one food, what would it be?
Fresh baked Anadama bread with butter and homemade marmalade

How do you stay in shape?
I don’t own a car

Sometimes I forget to leave my house and studio :)

I currently have a crush on DeLouisville.

How do you take your coffee?
I am not particular, but some kind of milk and if it’s really strong sugar please.

I admire and would love to meet so many successful and insanely creative female artists including Maira Kalman, Sara Fanelli, Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith and Beatriz Milhazes

Would you like a piece of dark chocolate with sea salt?

What recent illustration job have you enjoyed doing?
A fun board game!

What was your favorite illustration assignment?
I greatly enjoyed the process of illustrating a line of t-shirts for Patagonia while I was on an olive farm near Florence, Italy last year!
